  Functional Medicine Health Coaching Functional Medicine Health Coaches know there’s more to a healthy lifestyle than fad diets and unsustainable exercise regimens. There’s a gap between what clients know they need to do to be healthy and the intrinsic motivation they need to make and sustain those changes. Coaches bridge that gap. Health coaches are trained in helping patients make healthy lifestyle behavior changes. Health coaches extend the provider’s reach by offering individualized guidance and support in implementing therapeutic plans, addressing barriers, and working through the day-to-day challenges that arise as patients manage their journey toward health and well-being. Health & wellness coaches display unconditional positive regard for their clients and a belief in their ability to change, honoring the fact that each client is an expert on their own life while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental. Working with a Health Coach, you may choose just one area – or all areas – of lifestyle health and wellness to address including but not limited to: Weight loss Nutrition Movement/Exercise Sleep habits Stress management Individual sessions or packages available. Packages include 45-minute sessions for the allotted package duration. Optional check-ins and/or questions via texting app of your choice with your coach Monday – Friday between 8am-3pm. Group Health Coaching Join Linnea via Zoom during your lunch break as well as other peers going through a similar health journey to discuss lifestyle management. Mondays from 12-12:30 pm Hypothyroidism: Do you have hypothyroidism or Hashitmoto’s? Do you still have symptoms even while being treated by your doctor? Join your peers to discuss real lifestyle tools to support your thyroid health and improve your quality of life. Tuesdays from 12-12:30 pm Metabolic Syndrome: Do you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol (high triglycerides or low HDL, insulin resistance, high blood sugars or pre-diabetes, or carry your weight predominantly in your belly? All these things are risk factors for your health. If you have 3 or more of these, you are considered to have Metabolic Syndrome. Join your peers to discuss making the needed lifestyle changes to support your cardiometabolic health. Wednesdays from 12-12:30 pm Gut Health: Do you have IBS, SIBO, Leaky Gut, or just suffer from bloating, pain, gas, and bowel irregularity? Join your peers and see how common these GI symptoms are and work towards improving your gut health. Thursdays from 12-12:30 pm Stress Management: ​Are you plagued with stress during your days? Are you unable to feel daily gratitude and joy under the pressure of work, family, and life? Come discuss real stress management options with your peers and gain support knowing you are not alone! Group Health Coaching FAQ’s How do I join my first group coaching session? Call the clinic at 319-393-4307 or email Linnea at linnea@theteggatzclinic.com to get put on the Group Coaching roster. Do I have to come to every session or every day? NO! The beauty of group coaching is you come when you are available and have the need. Yes – coaching will give you the most benefit if used CONSISTANTLY. But schedules are busy and unpredictable. So come when you can. No penalty for not coming to a session. What is the cost? $10/session. You pay for the sessions you attend. You do not pay for any session you do not. How long will the sessions be? 30 minutes. Quick, simple and to the point. Eating and drinking is completely acceptable as this time is structured around the standard working lunch break time. What will the format be? Linnea will open the group session with 5 minutes of education on a topic related to the overall group coaching session. Then 20 minutes will be YOUR time! Those attending can ask questions, share their story, get curious about where improvements in lifestyle are feasible, etc. The last 5 minutes will be focused on verbalizing a goal to work on for the upcoming week. How do I get on the Zoom call? Once you are registered to attend any of the group coaching sessions, a document will be loaded onto your patient portal with the Times and Schedules of all Zoom Coaching Sessions with the links and passwords to attend. Will my spot be guaranteed? Unfortunately, no. Using the drop in structure, 8 people will be allowed in per session on a first come first serve basis. And due to the short nature of the sessions, no one will be admitted after 10 minutes have passed.

• Group Classes

  Come to these conversational, small group structured classes to learn how to take charge of your health from a Functional Medicine perspective using lifestyle management. Classes are $15 each or free with membership. Class Calendar What is The Elimination Diet? The Elimination Diet is a short-term diet plan aimed to remove the most common foods that can cause digestive problems, headaches, chronic sinus drainage, low energy, depression, mood swings, eczema, skin irritations, joint aches, asthma, weight gain, and others. • Acupuncture

  Acupuncture is a complementary medical practice that involves stimulating certain points on the body to alleviate pain or to help treat various health conditions. Developed thousands of years ago in China, numerous recent studies conducted by scientists in Europe and the United States have found that acupuncture is effective for a whole host of conditions. What does acupuncture treat? Many medical conditions can be improved by the use of acupuncture. The amount of improvement varies. The conditions which tend to show the most improvement with acupuncture are stress-related-conditions, hormone-related conditions, acute injuries, most types of pain, headache, sinus problems, anxiety and mild depression and trigger points. What is it? Acupuncture is a very safe and effective ancient system of healing that involves the use of thin, metal needles inserted at very specific points in the body to effect desired changes in the flow of qi or vital energy. This induces the body to heal itself through biologic mechanisms such as increased blood flow, decreased inflammation and the release of neurotransmitters and other chemical substances. Medical acupuncture specifically is acupuncture performed by a medical doctor, an M.D. or D.O. How many do I need? Depending on the condition and its severity, a series of acupuncture treatments is usually needed. For acute problems, a series of 4-6 treatments at semi-weekly to weekly intervals is common. For more chronic problems, a series of 6-8 at gradually increasing intervals is typical, with maintenance treatments at 3, 6 or 12 month intervals to prevent recurrence.

• Gluten Sensitivity

  While it is easy to dismiss gluten allergies as a new-age fad, there is actually significant science behind it that demonstrates the serious effects on one’s health that it can take. Gluten is a protein molecule that can be found in most oats, wheat, barley, rye, and the grains. Most breads you come across will likely have gluten in them.
